Ms. Marvel Sega Figure is Cute

Ms. Marvel has been a favourite superhero of mine ever since her first comic came out. She has become a pop culture icon and a voice for hope since her debut in 2013. Her status as the first Muslim character to headline a Marvel series was shared enthusiastically by many and the comic series quickly became one of the industry’s bestselling titles because it was, quite simply, an excellent superhero comic book which was written with wit, pathos and heart.

I have collected all her graphic novels, which have been awesome, and seen the series and The Marvels movie, which were both pretty solid imho and didn’t deserve the hate they received, especially the movie where Kamala stole the show.

Anywho, I have collected some Lego type figures of the character and now have added the Sega Super Premium model to my collection. It is a very reasonably priced figure (only £25) and looks amazing too; it's build quality and painting giving it a much superior look to what the price would imply. Okay, it's not the Kotokubiya figure I would have liked but then it didn't cost me £150 so I can live with that.

Anyways, here are a few pics of the figure.

RIP Steve Ditko

Steve Ditko was the legendary artist and creator behind many iconic comic characters including Spider Man, Dr. Strange, The Creeper, The Question,  Captain Atom, Mysterio, Green Goblin, Dr. Octopus, Kraven, Lizard, Electro and my favourite Squirrel Girl. He past away today and will be fondly remembered by many. His artwork is embedded in my mind as I loved the reprints of the original Spiderman run which I collected in the 80's.

To remember how much he changed the comic world watch the BBC4 documentary 'In Search of Steve Ditko.'

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl in 2 Mins

I'm a huge comic nerd and over the last few years I've loved seeing a younger and more varied readership entering the fold. There are many reasons for this but I think the new line of comics aimed at a younger audience and the popular films have revived some interest in long gestating characters. Squirrel Girl is one of these characters and having read all of the graphic novels on the Marvel Now line I can say that she is an awesome character. When I try to explain the powers she has it gets a little strange so why not let this short 2 minute video by Marvel explain the basics. Enjoy!

Erica Henderson Signing In London

I read a lot of comics and graphic novels and one of my favourites is The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl. Writer Ryan North and artist Erica Henderson have turned what was a bit of a joke character into an excellent heartfelt comic character with a lot of heart. So it with great excitement that I can inform you that Henderson will be signing from 5-7 pm on Friday 11th November at Orbital Comics in London, and this will be followed by an after-hours Director’s Commentary on The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl Beats Up The Marvel Universe.

I've been to a few of these signings and Director Commentaries and I've always had a great time. If you're a Squirrel Girl fan it's a must go! Eat nuts and kick butts guys!

I loves me some Squirrel Girl!

Modern Day Icons in the Flemish Style

Sacha Goldberger is a photographer and artist who has taken inspiration from the great Flemish artists of the 16th and 17th century to portray modern day icons as they might have been presented in those ages. It's a beguiling and arresting look achieved through the use of incredible constumes, lighting and models who look similar to the characters they portray.

I've shared one picture below but I would definitely recommend his website where he uses the Flemish art style to portray Marvel and DC Superheroes too!

Every X-man Ever

The guys at IGN have done an amazing job of creating a timeline infographic of every X-man ever. As a fan of kinetic typography and After Effects this is a true marvel (pardon the pun). Check it out for yourself and see!

Captain America 2: Winter Soldier 80's Action film

Captain America is a great film but there is an awesome trailer on youtube created by ChiefBrodyRules that imagines it as an 80's action style film, down to the grainy VHS film filter. In his words:

The year is 2007. Crime is at an all time high and the law has a plan to wipe it out! CAPTAIN AMERICA (Chris Evans), a Vietnam vet who was given super strength by a military scientist, Abraham Erskine (Cillian Murphy) is now America's new crime fighter. When he refuses to kill an innocent Senator he is back stabbed by the very people who made him! He's out for revenge. If you're going to make enemies, you better make sure it's not America!

Its all very well done and reminds me of my childhood watching those Stallone and Schwarzenegger films. Anyway, enough yakking. Enjoy!
